Job Description:
Support Space Shuttle and International Space Station (ISS) payload definition, development, and flight hardware design and certification.
Experience and Education:
  • BS in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum three years experience in designing embedded controlled electronic products
  • Analog and digital circuit design including schematic capture, PCB design, debugging and system test
Basic Requirments:
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Be a member of a cross-functional team engaged in the development of automated systems for Space Shuttle and International Space Station flight experiments
Essential/Typical Duties:
  • Responsible for coordination of payload development efforts as assigned by the Manager.
  • Responsible for interfacing with the experiment Principal Investigator (PI).
  • Responsible for the design, development, testing and certification of flight hardware.
  • Responsible for development of Space Shuttle and ISS flight experiment documentation inputs (e.g. Payload Integration Plan (PIP), PIP Annexes, etc.).
  • Responsible for Experiment Processing Plan implementation of pre-flight and post-flight hardware activities for selected missions.
  • Responsible for the development and execution of experiment hardware Work Authorization Documents (WADs).
  • Responsible for selected experiment crew training.
    Responsible for providing weekly status reports and inputs to the quarterly and annual reports.
  • Responsible for providing appropriate, timely information to the Manager.
  • Responsible for support of selected missions and other duties as required by the Manager.
  • Other duties as required.

Position Title: Metrology Engineer
Location: Kennedy Space Center
Classification: Non-Exempt
Hours: First shift (typically 7:15 AM to 4:15 PM)
Salary: $66,000 to $74,000 per year
Job Description: Calibrate, repair, and maintain electronic measurement standards and precision equipment. Provide metrology engineering support to calibration technicians.
Experience and Education:
  • Associate or Bachelors degree in Engineering, Math or Science.
  • Five years experience in the operation, maintenance, and engineering support of complex electronic systems, including RF and Microwave, in a Metrology Laboratory. (AF Metrology Program experience highly desirable.)
  • Experience developing calibration procedures and complex uncertainty analyses. (Fluke MetCal experience is highly desirable.)
Basic Requirments:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to attain a Security Clearance.
  • Proficient use in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
Essential/Typical Duties:
  • Interprets complex equipment specifications to develop reliable calibration methods and procedures. Maintains and updates existing inventory of calibration procedures and forms.
  • Performs analysis to determine measurement process capability and uncertainty.
  • Identifies, recommends, and evaluates test and measuring equipment to maintain and improve laboratory capabilities.
  • Assists technicians with technical issues and problems, including troubleshooting broken equipment and resolving measurement problems.

Position Title: Associate Metrologist
Location: Patrick Air Force Base, FL
Classification: Non-Exempt
Hours: First shift (typically 7:15 AM to 4:15 PM)
Salary: $66,000 to $70,000 per year
Job Description: Provide engineering support to technicians calibrating electrical precision measuring equipment.
Experience and Education:
  • Associate or Bachelors degree in Engineering, Math or Science.
  • Five years experience in the operation, maintenance, and engineering support of complex electronic systems in a Metrology Laboratory. (RF/Microwave and AF Metrology Program experience highly desirable.)

Essential/Typical Duties:
  • Provide technical support/assistance to Calibration Specialists for problems encountered while calibrating TMDE

  • Ensure Laboratory PMEL capabilities are maintained through fulfillment of the PMEL’s table of allowances.
  • Fulfill the duties of Safety Monitor, Facility Manager, Hazardous Waste Coordinator, etc. as assigned
  • Support and assist AFMETCAL Auditors during certification evaluations.
  • Investigate quality discrepancies, determine root cause, and recommend corrective action.

Position Title: PMEL Technician III
Location: Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, OH
Classification: Non-Exempt
Hours: 7:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday-Friday (some overtime may be required)
Salary: $24.62/hr
Job Description: The Technician III is responsible for providing calibration and repair services on complex electronic/physical/dimensional equipment in the Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory. Applies advanced technical knowledge to solve problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturer’s manuals or similar documents. Exercises independent judgment in tasks such as making circuit analysis, calculating waveforms, and tracing relationships in signal flow. Uses complex test instruments, such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, pulse generators, peak power calibration sources/meters, and attenuation measurement devices on a regular basis. May be required to perform duties with overnight stays as required in order to support off-site customers within a geographical area of responsibility.
Experience and Education:
  • Minimum 4 years experience as a metrology laboratory technician.
  • Experience to include inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, aligning, calibrating/certifying TMDE, and metrology laboratory working standards.
  • Thorough understanding of the requirements of ISO 17025 and T.O. 00-20-14.
  • Possesses the knowledge required to read and analyze block, schematic, wiring and logic diagrams.
  • Good working knowledge of calibration and maintenance of general purpose signal generation and time/domain equipment. Experience with high frequency signal generation, RF power, microwave test instruments, tactical air navigation, instrument landing systems, sound and vibration measurement principles is highly desired. Completion of a Department of Defense school in these disciplines is preferred.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.

  • Maintain, repair and calibrate electronic and physical/dimensional test measurement and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).

Position Title: PMEL Technician III

Salary: $25.52 (Union)
Job Description: The Technician II is responsible for providing calibration and repair services on physical, dimensional, mechanical and optical Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) in the physical/dimensional laboratory (C & D Lab).
Experience and Education:
  • Minimum four (4) years experience as PMEL technician.
  • Experience shall include inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, aligning, calibrating and certifying TMDE and laboratory working standards using safe working practices and utilizing the required documents/procedures
Basic Requirments:
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen, be able to acquire and maintain any and all necessary security clearances.
  • Thorough understanding of T.O. 00-20-14
  • Thorough understanding in the care and use of TMDE
  • Good working knowledge of the calibration and maintenance of physical, dimensional, mechanical and optical TMDE and calibration laboratory measurement standards
  • Good working knowledge of electrical, electronics, electromechanical, mechanical, physics, optics and thermal principles; mathematics and number systems
  • Knowledge of electrical theory, electronics and/or physics, and operating principles of TMDE
  • Knowledge required to read, interpret and analyze block, schematic and wiring diagrams, blueprints and technical publications
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting techniques; calibration traceability, metrology techniques and safe laboratory practices
  • Competent with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
Essential/Typical Duties:
  • Maintain, repair and calibrate TMDE in the C & D Lab
