KMS Linear Programming Optimizer
KMS’ principal product is the linear simplex optimizer,
C-WHIZ. It is a general-purpose linear programming solver used to optimize
models from a
wide range of application areas in government and industry. This outstanding
mathematical software application is based on the revised simplex algorithm;
it exploits matrix supersparsity, a powerful pre-solve, and other processing
protocols that minimize computer resource utilization for fast, robust solutions.
Given
a system of equations and inequalities that define the problem under study,
C-WHIZ finds the mathematically best solution. It is used for objective
analysis where there are many alternatives, bounds, and trade-offs. For instance,
C-WHIZ can be used by conservationists for forest planning, and by a logging
company to most efficiently harvest and replenish the forest within the limits
of the conservationists’ plans. The C-WHIZ linear optimizer has been
used to perfect steel making, oil field operation, beer production, global
energy supply planning, refinery operation, commodity purchasing, pizza production,
paper production, personnel policy analysis, pipeline operation, power plant
coal purchasing and blending, poultry feed blending, etc. ad infinitum.
Adding the mixed-integer feature to C-WHIZ allows you to solve models that include
discrete yes/no decisions and integer variables.
The ability of C-WHIZ to quickly supply meaningful results for your application
is enhanced by integrating it with the KMS DATAFORM model management system
or with the KMS Optimization & Modeling Library.
