Bionetics has played a major role in national efforts to protect
air, water, and land resources from pollution. Our environmental scientists
and industrial hygienists have assisted the Environmental Protection Agency,
National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and Department of Defense
in their efforts to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Currently, Bionetics monitors compliance with the Clean Air Act for
the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). We are one of only a few
contractors in the United States to perform tasks designed to support EPA
 |
enforcement
actions in the field. We sample fuels from refineries, importers,
distributors, resellers, carriers, retail dispensing facilities and wholesale
purchaser-consumers
and screen fuel samples for lead, sulfur, oxygenates, benzene, weight
percent oxygen, and volatility. Where violations are indicated we package
and ship
fuel samples under strict chain-of-custody procedures for laboratory
analyses. We perform automotive emission control equipment inspections
at automobile
dealerships, fleet operators, automotive service and repair facilities,
muffler shops, and similar facilities. We provide audits of refineries
and importers nationwide concerning the phase down of gasoline additives,
reformulation and anti-dumping regulations. We provide inspection
of facilities that service motor vehicle air conditioners for compliance
with refrigerant
use and recycling. We inspect facilities with underground storage
tanks for compliance with regulations for protection against hazardous material spills, overfills,
and corrosion. All the findings provided by Bionetics may be the
subject
of litigation initiated by EPA, therefore our personnel are available
to testify in a variety of legal proceedings.
