Space Life Sciences
At NASA's Kennedy Space Center and Ames Flight Research
Center, Bionetics provides full operational support to
biological and physical research programs. While NASA’s mission
is refocusing on new destinations, Bionetics employees are hosting
renowned researchers from around the world who are preparing
experiments
to fly aboard the Space Shuttle and International Space Station. These experiments
lay the foundation for living and working on the Moon and Mars.
Our research encompasses human, plant, aquatic, tissue, cells, vertebrate
and invertebrate studies.
Bionetics employees are responsible for definition
of the researchers’ laboratory needs, outfitting the laboratory
to meet those needs and assisting investigators in research activities.
Our staff is comprised of engineers and technicians
and scientists trained in
a variety of research areas. Our expertise includes critical
compliance areas such as laboratory safety, environmental compliance,
chemical
management, and reliability and maintainability. We have supported
hundreds of experiments flown since 1970, beginning with the Planetary
Protection for the Voyager spacecraft.

Another key Bionetics role is serving as the facilitator
for commercial and international space research at Kennedy Space
Center. Together with our partners, Bionetics is developing a
strategy to collaborate with industry,
the State of Florida and university researchers to concentrate
the best expertise in biological research. By bringing together
space research experience with world-class researchers, Bionetics
pursues the science and technology needed to continue our exploration
of the universe.
